Pacaya Samiria: This is the largest Protected Natural Area in Peru (2´080,000 ha), located at 300 km / 190 miles from Iquitos. Accessible only by waterways.The wealth of the low lying Virgin Rainforest gives this area an enormous bio-diversity similar to the one of the Manu National Park, where also live several species not present in this area. The National Reserve has many lakes and lagoons and vast swamp areas.
Day 01: Lima
Arrive to Lima. Reception and transfer to hotel. Lodging.
Day 02: Lima - Iquitos
Breakfast. Transfer to the airport. Reception in Iquitos and transfer to Nauta by a Private Vehicle.
The trip takes about 1 ½ hours. In Nauta, will take PSAL boats to begin the program
with a visit to the confluence of the Ucayali and Maranon rivers, where the Amazon begins.
It has a unique view of the Amazon River, thanks to the 30 meters high watchtower.
Arrive at the hostel and accommodation. Lunch. In the afternoon, make a hike through the
woods around the lodge to watch the fauna and flora. Depending on weather conditions,
you will appreciate the beauty of the sunset. Dinner and briefing about the next day's activities. Lodging.
Day 03: Iquitos
Sunrise on the jungle. Birdwatching. Breakfast. Departure to the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.
Boat excursion through the Quebrada Nauta and surrounding lagoons. Observe the Flora and fauna
including primates, sloths and birds. Lunch. Exploration in the primary forest.
Identification of plants and trees. Return to the lodge. Dinner and briefing about the next day's activities. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 04 and 05: Iquitos
Breakfast.Departure to the Pacaya Samiria Reserve. During these days, we will explore the Reserve
by the area of Yanayacu River. This area has just been opened to tourism, so the wildlife
is more impresive. In this way, they will observe gray and pink dolphins. It will also
take the opportunity to observe waterfowl, turtles, primates, sloths, parrots and macaws.
The first thing that strikes the visitor is that water so faithfully reflects the sky and clouds,
the streamside vegetation and large trees, which the traveler has the feeling of sailing
through endless mirrors. Activities include hikes through primary rainforest, wildlife
observation, hiking in lakes, fishing, visit to a local community to know the typical activities of
the settlers, and nocturnal excursion in order to observe alligators and hear the sounds of jungle,
among others. The accommodation is basic, in tents, either in river beaches or forest clearings.
On the 5th day and after lunch, return to the hostel.
Day 06: Iquitos - Lima
Breakfast. Morning free. Lunch. Departure to Iquitos. Arrive at Iquitos in time to
board your flight back to Lima. Lodging.
Day 07: Lima.
Breakfast. Transfer to airport to take back the flight to Lima.
